Land Tax Assistance for Landlords

To help small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Land Tax Assistance for Landlords program was launched in April 2020.

The program gives landlords, who provide rent relief to their small business tenants, partial compensation through a grant that is linked to their land tax obligations.

The program originally had a qualifying period of 1 March to 31 August 2020 during which a landlord had to have waived a tenant’s rent for a period of three months or equivalent (ie. 50 per cent over six months). Applications for this grants round closed on 31 October 2020

Applications for round two closed at 4 pm on 28 March 2021, which had a qualifying period of 1 September 2020 to 31 December 2020. Grants for either round are paid at a rate equivalent to 25 per cent of a landlord’s land tax bill for 2019-20 (including any Metropolitan Region Improvement Tax (MRIT) component), in relation to their eligible tenants.

Program terms and conditions were updated on 1 November 2020.

This program is now closed.
