To help small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Land Tax Assistance for Landlords program was launched in April 2020.
The program gives landlords, who provide rent relief to their small business tenants, partial compensation through a grant that is linked to their land tax obligations.
The program originally had a qualifying period of 1 March to 31 August 2020 during which a landlord had to have waived a tenant’s rent for a period of three months or equivalent (ie. 50 per cent over six months). Applications for this grants round closed on 31 October 2020
Applications for round two are now open, with a qualifying period of 1 September 2020 to 31 December 2021. Grants for either round are paid at a rate equivalent to 25 per cent of a landlord’s land tax bill for 2019-20 (including any Metropolitan Region Improvement Tax (MRIT) component), in relation to their eligible tenants.
Program terms and conditions were updated on 1 November 2020. Please read them before applying for a round two grant.
